  • Mario Balotelli hits out at Bastia fans after vile racial abuse

"Football is an fantastic sport. those people like Bastia supporters make it awful".

On Friday, in the opening match of the 21st day of Ligue 1, OGC Nice faced SC Bastia.

Broadcaster BeIn Sport has released footage which clearly shows a handful of Bastia fans in one section of the stadium racially abusing Balotelli.

Later on Saturday, a French football association said it would investigate the incident.

It said: "Having never noticed nor been informed, either by referees, the delegates or any member of Nice of any incident of this type, it is with surprise that our club discovered these accusations, which carry considerable harm to the image of our club as a whole".

The LFP's disciplinary committee will start looking into the matters when it convenes on Thursday and once it has received further information from officials and both clubs.

Although Bastia said Saturday it was not aware of any such abuse taking place, the Corsican club added that it was at the LFP's disposal "so that all light is shed" on "this type of behavior, which is by nature stupid and unacceptable". Balotelli wrote, referencing the French league's disciplinary committee. "We heard it during the warmup (and) during the game as well, monkey chants", Plea said on Telefoot.

Balotelli played a full 90 minutes at the Armand Cesari and while he failed to get on the scoresheet, he still made headlines the morning after.

"Nice, which already had stones thrown at its bus before the game, is outraged by what happened to its players on Friday night, and in particular to Mario Balotelli", a statement read.

This has not been the first time that the striker has been the subject of racist abuse, in 2013 he threatened to "leave the pitch" if he was racially abused by Roma supporters while playing for AC Milan.

Bastia have previously been docked two points in the 2007-2008 season when their fans Burkina Faso striker Boubacar Kebe.
