Trump's Chicago tweet is another response to cable news

The Chicago Tribune reported the numbers in a Monday story.

President Trump tweeted Tuesday night that if Chicago is unable to reduce its homicide figures, he will send in "the Feds" to help reduce the city's murder rate.

It was not immediately clear exactly what Trump meant by "send in the Feds".

His tweet also coincided with Bill O'Reilly talking about Chicago's gun violence on the "The O'Reilly Factor".

In addition, the federal government should fund afterschool programs and summer job programs, Emanuel said.

In this case, Trump appeared to be responding to a segment on Fox News.

Cooper said there had been a "wholesale failure" by Emanuel and other IL officials to stop the "carnage", perhaps indicating why Trump put quotation marks around that word in his Tweet.

After his unexpected Election Day electoral college victory, Trump continued to bag on Chicago in general and Mayor Rahm Emanuel, an outspoken opponent of Donald Trump's proposed policies.

He told WTTW-TV he would accept more resources from the FBI, DEA and ATF to track and block gun running from neighboring states.

The federal government should invest "in neighborhoods that are hard hit by poverty and become a breeding ground for violence", Emanuel said.

He criticized Trump for signing a flurry of executive orders involving rather than working with Congress to pass new legislation.

"The people who can most effect this other than police-I don't know what they're waiting for-I really don't", he said. "We need jobs, not jails".

CHICAGO-President Trump on Tuesday warned that if Chicago does not stem the violence that has ravaged the city he stands ready to call for federal intervention.

January could go down as a record-setting month for shootings and homicides in the city.
