Westbrook To Teammates: Don't Say 'What's Up' To KD

The Thunder-Warriors game on Wednesday night had pretty much everything we'd expect from the rivalry between Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant: Fiery competitiveness, a Westbrook triple-double, a dominant Kevin Durant shooting night, and a double-digit Warriors victory.

In their second meeting of the season between former teammates Russell Westbrook and Kevin Durant, Durant stole the show. But Westbrook's play has him in early discussions for the MVP award. As players walked off the court, cameras caught Westbrook yelling at Enes Kanter not to talk to Durant, using some choice, expletive words to describe Durant.

"What exchange?" Westbrook responded to a reporter who'd asked about the incident.

"The Warriors are doing a lot of trash talking", Westbrook said following the loss. "For most guys, you feel that extra juice when you play against a team that you played on".

"Every player in the National Basketball Association wants to play well against his old team", Warriors coach Steve Kerr said of Durant's performance. Westbrook, for the most part, has remained quiet on the issue.

Houston broke open a tight game with four straight three-pointers in the final period.

Oklahoma City (25-18) is on the fourth leg of a seven-city road trip that spans 13 days, though the Thunder will return home for three days of workouts before going to Utah next Monday.

The Thunder will welcome Durant and the Warriors to Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City on March 20th.

Durant, who left the Thunder as a free agent in the off-season and dropped 39 points on them in November, contributed 13 points to a third-quarter flurry as the Warriors (36-6) exploded into a 93-78 lead after having been tied at 56-56 at halftime.

Pachulia delivered a flagrant foul on Westbrook late in the second quarter, striking the guard in the face as he attempted a shot then appearing to stand over him as he lay on the court. Durant played optimally against a team he had motivation to best.

The Warriors close out their midseason 24-day Northern California residency Wednesday night with yet another game accompanied by drama.

Or Westbrook can go old-school and avail himself of Michael Jordan's preferred tactic against over-aggressive play by opposing big men, particularly when setting wide or moving screens. It seems unlikely that the two will have more to say to one another when they play in Oklahoma City in February.
