  • All Delaware prisons on lockdown after 'hostage situation'

Smyrna - All of Delaware's prisons have been place on lockdown following a reported hostage taking at the state's maximum security facility in Smyrna, according to DOC spokesman.

Vaughn Correctional Center in the town of Smyrna, about 40 miles (64 km) south of Wilmington, was locked down between 10:30 a.m. ET and 11 a.m. ET (1530-1600 GMT), spokeswoman Jayme Gravell said.

Geoff Klopp, president of the Correctional Officer's Association of DE, said there is a hostage situation at the prison, but he did not know how many guards are involved.

All prisons in the state were placed on lockdown, according to The AP.

Gravell described the situation as an isolated incident, adding that there was no threat to the public.
