  • Facebook users nearing two billion

$8.809 billion in total revenue during the quarter, a 50.8% increase from $5.841 billion in the same quarter a year ago.

Mobile MAUs - Mobile MAUs were 1.74 billion as of December 31, 2016, an increase of 21% year-over-year.

Facebook hasn't hit 2 billion users per month, but it's getting pretty damn close.

Facebook's shares were up 2.7 percent at $136.78 after the bell on Wednesday. He explained that "we're focusing on shorter form content to start", and that the company needs to build a sustainable ad revenue sharing business model to pay professional creators to bring that content to Facebook, Tech Crunch reported.

Facebook is expected to appeal the verdict.

However, many analysts have raised concerns about Facebook's ability to meet its own targets it sets every quarter.

The company's fourth quarter and full year financial results for 2016, saw it rake in $8.6 billion (around £36.4bn) in advertising revenue, a 53 percent increase over 2015's results.

Given that advertising makes up roughly 98% of Facebook's revenue, the $7.248 billion that retailers and other marketers spent on mobile advertising during the quarter made up more than 82% of the company's revenue.

In the fourth quarter, mobile ad revenue represented approximately 84% of total ad revenue - up from about 80% of ad revenue in the fourth quarter of 2015. Shares were up 0.2 percent in after-hours trading in NY. Wehner said that the service had played a part in the 3% rise in ad prices in the quarter, and the 49% jump in overall impressions sold.

Just as impressive are Facebook's increasing user numbers. "I see video as a megatrend on the same order as mobile", Mr Zuckerberg said.

In the future, Facebook hopes to develop the use of Facebook Live, its live video broadcasting tool. Facebook also expanded video advertising, drawing ad dollars that might otherwise have gone to television commercials.

Facebook's push for video goes well beyond the News Feed.

The company said about 1.86 billion people were using its service monthly as of December 31, up 17 percent from a year earlier. It also said it had 1.15 billion daily users on mobile.
