It is the first visit by a Saudi king to Japan since King Faisal's arrival in 1971.

India looked forward to the first official visit to New Delhi by King Salman of Saudi Arabia to further deepen the strategic ties between both countries, an official said on Sunday.

A key thrust of the Vision 2030 strategy is the setting up of special deregulated economic zones in Saudi Arabia, featuring tax incentives, easier Customs procedures and relaxed visa rules, to woo Japanese companies and investors.

Japan has offered to share its expertise in supply chain management, healthcare and renewable energy with Saudi Arabia, as the kingdom seeks to wean its economic dependency on crude oil. After the meeting, the governments inked the cooperation deal, titled the Japan-Saudi Vision 2030. Saudi Arabia and Japan maintain strong economic relations.

"We are looking forward to the visit of the King of Saudi Arabia later this year", External Affairs Secretary (Economic Relations) Amar Sinha, said at an event organised by the Saudi petrochemicals giant SABIC. After leaving Tokyo, the king is to lead his entourage of more than 1,000 cabinet members and corporate executives on to China.

Abe and King Salman agreed to beef up their countries' security cooperation, including the resumption of subcabinet-level talks, while defining the bilateral relationship as a strategic partnership. Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, the king's son, is spearheading the effort, announced previous year and dubbed Vision 2030.

Retno added that in the next two months, the President would he send a minister to follow up King Salman's visit to Indonesia.

The King was awarded the Order of the Chrysanthemum, Japan's highest order, by Emperor Akihito.
