  • Ford recalls 440K vehicles for fire risk, door latch trouble

The company says it has 29 reports of fires in the USA and Canada, but no injuries.

The automaker on Wednesday said models impacted by the recall include the 2014 Escape, 2014-2015 Fiesta ST, 2013-2014 Ford Fusion and 2013-2015 Ford Transit Connect.

Ford now doesn't have service kits available and told customers to continue to drive their vehicles. It will mail customers instructions on how to check and refill coolant.

Since the 2015 recall, there are almost 757,000 cars that are being brought back, including the newly recalled cars.

The recalled vehicles are equipped with 1.6-liter GTDI engines, which could overheat because of a lack of coolant circulation, according to a news release from Ford.

"Customers can continue to drive their vehicles, but should see their dealer if their vehicle exhibits a coolant leak, overheating or frequently needs coolant added".

The company said the "pawl spring tab" inside the side door could break, causing the door to not close and increase the risk of the door opening while in motion.

The company also is adding 211,000 vehicles to a previous recall to replace faulty door latches that recall covers the 2014 Fiesta and the 2013 and 2014 Fusion and Lincoln MKZ.

Ford said there have been no injuries so far attributed to the bad latches, which can sometimes prevent the door from fully closing or cause it to open suddenly while the auto is in motion. Dealers are to replace all four side door latches with an improved service door latch. Ford said it had not recorded any crashes or injuries connected to the defect.

Ford also announced two smaller recalls concerning 548 2017 Ford F-450 and F-550 trucks due to the driveshaft, and 111 2017 Ford Edges due to missing windshield header welds.

Affected vehicles may experience driveline vibration caused by a powertrain system resonance condition at speeds above 75 miles per hour. Thankfully, Ford hasn't received any reports of injuries related to this issue. The replaced driveshaft is said to fix the issue.

Ford has also issued a recall for 111 2017 Ford Edge cars to fix windshield header welds.
