Israeli police said in a statement that the cyberattack squad of its fraud unit had worked together with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, including representatives who went to Israel, and police organizations from other countries to track the suspect, who is 19 years old.

President Donald J. Trump came out late last month to condemn such threats against the Jewish community.

The 19-year-old suspect was pick up in a raid on his home in southern Israel early Thursday by a special police cyber team that found sophisticated equipment created to mask the source of the phone calls and the suspect's voice, Samri said.

An U.S. -Israeli teenager (r.) was arrested in Israel on suspicion of making bomb threats against Jewish community centers. "I am glad they found someone and I hope they can teach a lesson by this arrest to those who are making these threats that even a light threat, perhaps made in jest, will not be taken lightly".

The special Lahav 433 investigation unit discovered a Bitcoin account operated by the suspect. He made no comment.

"SpoofCard is aware of the investigation regarding phone-based bomb threats to schools and organizations", the company said in a statement. This medical condition exempted him from the Israeli draft. "This is one of the things the judge told the police to check, to talk to his doctors, to get more documents and to investigate him according to his medical situation".

Police traced the address to a WiFi access point that Kaydar was allegedly accessing through a giant antenna pointed out a window in his Ashkelon home in southern Israel.

Both the suspect and his father have been detained until March 30. The court extended his police detention for eight days. He says the Justice Department "will not tolerate the targeting of any community in the country on the basis of their religious beliefs".

Dollar steadies after worst fall in two months
CURRENCIES: The euro from dipped to $1.0746 from $1.0749 late Thursday, and the British pound fell to $1.2367 from $1.2358. But the dollar struggled to make more progress through the European morning and waned as NY traders arrived at their desks.

The Israeli-American suspected of perpetrating more than 100 bomb threats against Jewish institutions used technologies including Google Voice, a call forwarding service, and Bitcoin, a digital currency, to make the threats.

The threats led to evacuations of the buildings, upset Jewish communities, and raised fears of rising anti-Semitism. And some recent anti-Semitic acts were apparently committed by others, like threats against Jewish centers for which a Missouri man was charged, and the vandalizing of Jewish cemeteries.

As the number of threats grew, Trump was criticized for not speaking out.

Rabbi Avi Richler, executive director of the Chabad of Gloucester County, told New Jersey 101.5 did not know details about the arrest but said, "a threat is a threat".

Jerry Silverman, president and CEO of The Jewish Federations of North America, also expressed regret.

They zeroed in on an American-Israeli dual national around 19 years old. "JCCs and other institutions should not relax security measures or become less vigilant".

The threats across the US have forced people to vacate dozens of Jewish Community Centers, schools, offices and day-care centers, fostering fears about anti-Semitism nationwide. The suburban Fort Lauderdale school had armed guards at its entrances on Thursday.
