Earlier saw the news that Joss Whedon is jumping ship to the DCEU to direct, produce and write a new Batgirl movie.

As first reported by Variety, a yet-untitled film starring Batgirl is in the works from Warner Bros.

Joss Whedon is the writer-director behind two Avengers films, one Shakespeare adaptation and showrunner of beloved TV series.

While various interpretations (and incarnations) of Batgirl have made their marks over the years, the character's recent resurgence in popularity is linked to 2014's "Batgirl of Burnside" comics reboot by Brenden Fletcher, Cameron Stewart and Babs Tarr. Warner Bros.is also eyeing a Suicide Squad spin-off called Gotham City Sirens centered around Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn. But when her overprotective Dad forbids her from joining the force, her admiration of Batman leads her to rebel the way crime-fighting rebels do in Gotham City: by picking up the mantle of the Bat.

Holy Shifting Brand Loyalty, Batman, we're getting a Joss Whedon directed Batgirl movie! By day she's Barbara Gordon, daughter of Police Commissioner Gordon. When Barbara Gordon was paralyzed by a gunshot from the Joker in the controversial classic graphic novel "The Killing Joke", other crimefighters, like The Huntress and Orphan, took up the Batgirl name while Barbara became Oracle, a tech-savvy aide to Batman.

According to the report, more characters from Gotham are set to appear in the Batgirl film, but no word yet about who they are. This is because after plenty of discussion over bringing Batgirl to life on the big screen in a solo project, it seems that the DCEU is officially moving forward with the film.

There is not now any information regarding a star or even a scheduled release date. Sure, we suffered a long dry spell at the turn of the century as far as superhero movies went, but we're back, baby.

With Warner Bros. showing no signs of slowing down in the pursuit of riding its premier IP for everything it's worth, it would only stand to reason that Barbara Gordon join the fray sooner or later.
