Fort Belvoir said in a post on its Facebook page that the UH-60 helicopter made a "hard landing" around 1:50 p.m. Monday near Leonardtown, Maryland.

The UH-60 Blackhawk, from the 12th Aviation Battalion, was stationed at Davison Airfield in Fort Belvoir, Virginia.

Earlier Monday, a US military official told NBC News the helicopter had "suffered a hard landing" near Leonardtown, and that at least one was medically evacuated to a local hospital.

The cause of the crash is under investigation and a team from the Army Combat Readiness Center at Fort Rucker in Alabama will be at the site of the crash Tuesday, the Army said.
