Elon Musk nears $1.4 billion windfall as Tesla hits milestones

  • Elon Musk's Latest Company Wants to Stop a Robot Apocalypse

Elon Musk's newest venture Neuralink, a start-up on a mission to link human brains with computers, may sound like science fiction, for Qualtrics CEO Ryan Smith the concept isn't so far-fetched. In the meantime, Musk said that he plans to deliver something "that helps with certain severe brain injuries (stroke, cancer lesion, congenital) in about four years". According to Elon Musk, with two brain interfaces, you could actually do an uncompressed direct conceptual communication with another person.

Three weeks after word leaked out that billionaire deep-thinker Elon Musk was backing a venture called Neuralink, his detailed vision for linking brains and computers is laid out in a 36,000-word white paper.

The lofty goals of Neuralink means that someday humans may be able to directly communicate with each other and computers with just a thought.

"The $1.4 billion windfall from his options is based on what Musk would pocket if he'd been able to exercise all 5.27 million of them on Thursday, when Tesla shares closed at $302.51 in NY", says Bloomberg.

Musk, who already serves as chief executive of electric vehicle firm Tesla and space exploration company SpaceX, will also resume the role at Neuralink, which was publicly announced in March.

The short-term goal is just a way to fund the long-term goal, and this is where things start to get really interesting. This is the third company where Musk will be the CEO and he is dedicated to creating 'consensual telepathy' to fulfill the goals of Neuralink Corp.

Musk said: "It is important to note that this depends heavily on regulatory approval timing and how well our devices work on people with disabilities".

Although this idea may creep people out, Musk said the level of technology available today already makes people a "cyborg". Details of the AI interface startup were first reported by the Wall Street Journal. Mood disorders, Parkinson's, OCD, and other brain-related medical issues could rapidly be corrected if we had a more reliable, thorough, and minimally-invasive way of telling our brain exactly what it needs to do. That's insane slow communication.

Musk likened the situation to the cooperation of the limbic system and the cortex in the human brain.

"We're going to have the choice of either being left behind and being effectively useless or like a pet - you know, like a house cat or something - or eventually figuring out some way to be symbiotic and merge with AI", he said on the blog.
