'Everybody and their brother who played hockey in Boston was trying out for these roles, ' Michael Mantenuto told The New York Times.

The former actor was found dead Monday in his own vehicle by police in Des Moines, WA, according to TMZ.

Michael skated his way to the top when he was cast in the 2004 Disney film "Miracle" about the 1980 U.S. Olympic hockey team's victory over Russian Federation.

Meanwhile Jack O'Callahan - the ice hockey champ Michael played in Miracle - paid his respects to the star on social media. After beating the Russians, the USA team defeated Finland to win the gold medal.

A MA native who starred in the movie "Miracle" died this week. Kurt Russell and Patricia Clarkson also starred in the movie. He played for Holliston High and played junior hockey for the Walpole Junior Stars. He later went on to appear in two other films, "Dirtbags" in 2006 and "Surfer, Dude" in 2008.

Mantenuto's death was announced by Col. Guillaume Beaurpere, commander of Mantenuto's US Army's First Special Forces Group.

After acting, Michael made a decision to join the military. However, he later left Hollywood to enlist in the Army.

"I was working on this fishing boat trapping eels before I got cast in this movie, so I felt like I was stepping off a boat and into a dream", Michael said when he started filming Miracle.
