House GOP to go home for Easter break without health care deal

08 April, 2017, 07:26 | Author: Brian Mcdaniel

According to a new poll from Gallup, approval for the Affordable Care Act has gone from 40 per cent in November to 57 per cent in the latest poll.

Bloomberg's Jennifer Jacobs and Billy House reported that the move on high-risk pools represented an attempt to show some progress on the healthcare bill after months of setbacks and an inability of House Republicans to come to a consensus on the details of their healthcare overhaul.

Hardline conservatives want to give states the option to waive the Affordable Care Act's protections for people with pre-existing health conditions, while more moderate Republicans are reluctant to sign onto those changes without a system in place to ensure people with a history of illness can get insurance coverage on the individual market. This includes mental health coverage and maternity care.

After acknowledging that Zombie Trumpcare - a.k.a. some revised version of the American Health Care Act, the GOP plan to repeal and partially replace Obamacare - was not going to command enough Republican support to lurch to the House floor before the two-week Easter recess, House Republicans nonetheless scheduled a Rules Committee meeting Thursday to tweak the dead-again legislation. All other Western democracies claim health care as a right for their citizens, paid for by citizens' taxes, and not a privilege reserved only for those who can afford it. There is still a door of opportunity open if the Grand Old Party will stand up and fight for not only their constituents, but the American people as well and be the party of principle and the party of our esteemed Constitution to bring our country back to our republic. Medicaid now serves 250,000 children with autism. What this means, is that instead of Medicaid being openly funded by the federal government, the block-grant program would mean that the federal government would give each State a certain amount of money per-person. The infighting among Republican lawmakers could not be resolved despite the White House mounting a serious effort.

Another Republican, Michigan Representative Justin Amish, said that the AHCA is "Obamacare 2.0".

Most Americans want to keep the law, but many want to see changes made.
