North Korea says Syria airstrikes prove its nukes justified

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson recently said the US has "spoken enough" after the latest such test, and according to NBC, other options may include deploying nukes to South Korea or assassinating North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

President Donald Trump proclaimed the success of his summit with China on Saturday, tweeting, "It was a great honor to have President Xi Jinping and Madame Peng Liyuan of China as our guests in the United States".

With a limited but decisive response to Syrian President Bashar Assad's alleged use of banned sarin nerve gas on Syrian civilians, Trump won plaudits from previously skeptical USA allies in Europe, as well as from some of his harshest critics at home.

Asked if Friday's strikes against Syria were a message to North Korea, Tillerson told ABC's This Week: "The message that any nation can take is, 'If you violate global norms, if you violate worldwide agreements, if you fail to live up to commitments, if you become a threat to others, at some point a response is likely to be undertaken'".

Addressing the nation on television immediately following the United States airstrike, Trump said, "Tonight I ordered a targeted military strike on the airfield in Syria from where the chemical attack was launched".

North Korea has a long history of defying United Nations resolutions and other attempts to prevent it from developing nuclear arms in conjunction with its growing ballistic-missile capabilities.

Despite this, it is believed the pair held productive talks, with Trump's Secretary of State Rex Tillerson claiming the meetings went well.

That test came a month after Pyongyang simultaneously launched four medium-range missiles into the ocean in what it said was proof it could hit US military bases in Japan.

Trump looked to be in good humour, while Xi wore a rare, sustained smile while posing for photos at the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, noted observers.

"If you violate global agreements, if you fail to live up to commitments, if you become a threat to others, at some point a response is likely to be undertaken", he said. McMaster said of the deployment on Fox News Sunday.

The North called the airstrikes "absolutely unpardonable" and said they prove its nuclear weapons are justified to protect the country against Washington's "evermore reckless moves for a war".
