  • Everything We Know So Far About the London Terrorist Attack

Nine people remain in custody and one woman has been released on bail, Rowley said.

Of the people arrested, six have since been released with "no further police action".

On Friday, Rowley thanked journalists who agreed to police requests not to publish Masood's name while investigators were still taking stock of the potential threat and arranging arrests and searches. A 75-year-old man who was injured died overnight, and 17 people remain hospitalized.

Metropolitan Police counterterrorism chief Mark Rowley speaks to the media about the terrorist attack, outside New Scotland Yard in London, Friday March 24, 2017. Then, he rammed the vehicle outside the parliament, with the aim of entering the building, armed with two knives.

In the meantime, more details are emerging about 52-year-old Khalid Masood, who was fatally shot by police after he stabbed an officer outside Parlaiment.

People made arrests across the country as they investigate whether anyone else helped Masood prepare his attack.

"We are not afraid and our resolve will never waver in the face of terrorism", May told a packed House of Commons, which stood for a minute's silence in remembrance of the victims.

Police said they were seeking to establish if Masood was inspired by terrorist propaganda, or if "others have encouraged, supported or directed him".

A 39-year-old woman was arrested in East London on suspicion of preparation of terrorist acts.

Police officers in Trafalgar Square were approached by numerous people who offered their condolences for the death of their colleague, who was stabbed to death outside parliament by a man police named as Khalid Masood.

The Saudi embassy in London says Khalid Masood taught English in the country and was there three times, from November 2005 to November 2006, and again from April 2008 to April 2009.

Mike Crofts, a former Army captain who served in Afghanistan, said he was in the courtyard outside Parliament following a meeting with politicians about using boxing to engage young men when the attack took place.

Police have scoured the hotel room where he stayed for evidence. It also said that there would be extra officers out on patrols over the next few days.

In the most detailed breakdown yet of events on Westminster Bridge and parliament on Wednesday, police said that the entire attack lasted a mere 82 seconds.

Leslie Rhodes, a retired window cleaner from Clapham, south London, died from injuries sustained in the attack.

As we reported Thursday, the attack's victims are from a wide cross-section, representing at least 12 nationalities.

Police had on Saturday acknowledged they may never know why Masood, a Muslim convert with a violent criminal past, carried out the attack and that he probably acted alone, despite a claim of responsibility by the Islamic State group.

People lit candles for those killed and wounded and one woman painted the word "freedom" on her forehead. But she called him "a peripheral figure".

But ISIS is suffering big losses at home and is losing territory in Iraq and Syria, and the group could be trying to capitalize on the attack by claiming credit for it, analysts have told NBC News.
