Tesla prioritizes Supercharger expansion "so drivers never wait to charge"

  • Ex-Tesla exec aims to outdo Tesla

Tesla will almost double its Supercharger electric auto charging network this year to 10,000 public charging units globally, up from 5,400, the company said Monday.

The firm also noted that as it prepares for its first mass-market vehicle and continues to increase our Model S and Model X fleet, charging is becoming an even greater priority. In total in North America, the number of Superchargers will increase 150 percent, and EV-loving California will get over 1,000 new Superchargers during 2017 within the state alone.

The vehicle company also now has around 9,000 Destination Charging Connectors that allow drivers to charge at hotels, resorts, and restaurants like they would at home with Tesla Wall Connectors.

"We're moving full speed on site selection and many sites will soon enter construction to open in advance of the summer travel season", reads the Tesla blog post. By the extension of Tesla supercharger network, it provides more efficient and consistent charging facility to the Tesla user. Supercharging is a much faster than the normal charging method of simply plugging a vehicle into a traditional electrical outlet. The company says it will add charging locations within city centers as well as highway sites this year.

Bebe expects to close all it stores by the end of May
Payless ShoeSource said earlier this month that it will close 400 of its 4,000-plus stores after filing for chapter 11 bankruptcy. Others such as BCBG Max Azria, Gordmans and Gander Mountain also have filed for bankruptcy and are closing some stores.

The upcoming launch of the Tesla Model 3 and the automaker's overall increase in production will put an incredible strain on Tesla's charging infrastructure. Well, Tesla has a plan. Plans to expand the network also call for expansion of existing stations and working toward making charging "ubiquitous in urban centers". These stations will feature the same type of Superchargers and technology now available; the size of the site will simply allow many Tesla vehicles to charge at once. First is North America, then Europe, then Asia. Not a bad effort in a five-year time frame, but the company is eyeing some rapid growth, today confirming plans to double that number in the space of a year.

"W$3 e know that to truly advance electric vehicle adoption, we must continue investing in charging infrastructure".

With cars that achieve more than 200-300 miles range, local driving is typically workable without need for topping off at a public charger.
