Trump's hardball tactic on health ca

  • Trump tweet-threatens imminent end of Obamacare

A congressional vote on a Republican healthcare plan may not come for weeks as leaders in the House of Representatives and the Senate continue negotiations over possible proposals, the White House said on Monday.

GOP leaders have shown no desire to revisit ObamaCare until they're assured they have enough votes to succeed, a point Ryan reiterated to lawmakers Saturday, according to participants in the call.

Perhaps that should have bee worded differently, but yes, if TrumpCare becomes law, Americans will definitely see the quality of their health care coverage "tumbling down". The Trump White House, desperate to score a legislative win before his first 100 days ends on Saturday, last week claimed the House would again take up a health care plan this week and vote on Wednesday.

The payments amount to about $7 billion in fiscal year 2017 and help cover out-of-pocket medical costs for low-income Americans who purchase insurance on the individual insurance exchanges created by the Affordable Care Act, often called Obamacare.

US Defense Secretary Mattis visits strategic Djibouti
The White House recently granted the US military broader authority to strike al Qaeda-linked al Shabaab militants in Somalia. Another senior United States defence official played down any concerns about China's base construction in Djibouti.

The White House and Democrats each have adopted hard-line positions on Trump's $1 billion request for a down payment on construction of the border wall, a central plank of last year's campaign. If they fail to come together on the measure, it will make health-care reform exponentially more hard since the reconciliation bill allows them to pass the measure with just a simple majority in the Senate.

When House members return from their Easter recess on April 25, they are expected to focus on a must-pass bill to keep the federal government funded beyond April 28. Still, the businessman said the federal government should set nationwide requirements to avoid chaos with different insurance rules for companies that operate in more than one state. But if they're not paid, premiums would rise so much that the government would spend an additional $12.3 billion for refundable tax credits to buy silver plans on the insurance exchanges.

Sounds like they've got a well-organized, detailed plan.

During the past seven years, states have diverged in their approach to a central aspect of the ACA, with most Democratic-led states accepting federal funding to expand Medicaid and most Republican-led states resisting. However, a Kaiser Family Foundation report found that high-risk pools have proven costly for states and individuals and left many people with preexisting conditions uncovered. Similarly, on the question of whether to retain the ACA's "essential benefits", 56 percent of people in non-expansion states support the idea, compared with 67 percent in states that expanded Medicaid.
