Now, a decade after it was first launched, Microsoft today announced that Windows Vista support has officially ended. Also, as more software and hardware manufacturers continue to optimize for more recent versions of Windows, you can expect to encounter more apps and devices that do not work with Windows Vista. The ride is over. If PCs continue to use Windows Vista even after its farewell those PCs would be more susceptible to a security threat, risk and viruses. Starting from today, the infamous operating system will no longer receive security patches, non-security updates, or any other kind of support.

Mainstream support for Windows Vista ended back in April 10, 2012.

If you're a business still using Vista, it's time to move on.

There's still some good news, however, as the Netmarket Share website, which tracks the popularity of operating systems on the internet, reports that only 0.72% of the PCs on the internet use Windows Vista.

In order to find which Windows OS you are running on your PC, Go to Start type "winver" double click the command shown in the search results check windows version under About Windows.

Although many of these annoyances were addressed throughout Vista's life, the perception of it being a bloated, buggy and user-unfriendly mess of an OS remained.

It didn't help that users also did not want to "upgrade" their OS when Vista was released. It led to Windows 7, Windows Phone, Windows on the Xbox One, and countless other variants. Windows 10 is the only desktop version of the OS still available for sale, and may not be compatible with older graphics adapters, too. Perhaps most famous for introducing alerts whenever users attempted to make changes, the operating system was best known for constantly interrupting work rhythm with needless alerts.

People took to Twitter to bid farewell to the operating system - although many users took a tongue-in-cheek approach.

Critics were particularly unhappy with the high system requirements of the new OS, along with the inclusion of new DRM technologies to restrict copying of protected material. "Password systems simply won't cut it", Bill Gates said at the time, noting they were a "weak link" of computer systems.
