  • Maryland bus crash: At least 30 injured, mostly children

The cause of the crash wasn't immediately clear; however, state police said they were questioning the driver of a vehicle that apparently was involved.

Thirty people were injured after a commuter bus overturned on I-95 just south of Cecil County, Maryland on Monday morning.

According to local fire officials, the children and chaperones were part of a caravan of buses heading from Philadelphia to Washington, D.C., for today's law enforcement officers' memorial service.

School Superintendent Dr. William Hite is holding a press conference at 2 p.m.at District headquarters to talk about accident.

The child was flown to AI DuPont via Trooper 4 (Delaware State Police). Other passengers suffered minor cuts, scrapes and bruises, and were taken to the hospital by ambulance or evaluated at the scene. Two people were flown by helicopter to trauma centers with more serious injuries, but no deaths have been reported.

The accident happened a few hours ago in the Havre de Grace area of northeastern Maryland.

The fire department warned beach goers to enter the water at their own risk. "I don't think we should be beach people anymore". Authorities posted advisories up and down the beaches of Southern California following several shark sightings this week.

The southbound side is expected to reopen Monday afternoon, the state police said. The bus ended up hitting an embankment and striking a tree before overturning onto its left side on the roadway.

Werner Coach president Heath Ochroch confirmed to NBC10 Philadelphia that the bus belongs to his company in Phoenixville, Pennsylvania.

Northbound I-95 between exits 89 and 93 will remain closed until further notice, authorities said.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation, but the crash site shows a wild scene.

At least two other buses and other cars are stopped near the overturned long, white bus with no apparent markings.
