Facebook is reportedly gearing up to roll out its roster of original content soon.

Social media giant Facebook is preparing a strong push into television with the launch about two dozen new shows in mid-June. "A concern among partners is that Facebook executives have yet to explain why people will seek out longer shows in the Facebook app's video tab", said a Facebook executive quoted in the Business Insider report. Apparently, one of the programs it greenlit is a collaboration with Conde Nast, a dating show that would have people meet in VR before they meet in real life.

Facebook sees high-quality, scripted video as an important feature to retain users, particularly a younger demographic that is increasingly flocking to rival Snapchat, as well as a means to rake in brand advertising dollars traditionally reserved for traditional TV.

There will be both long duration shows on the pattern of "House of Cards" and also 5-10 minutes shows that will be added to Facebook app's video tab daily, Business Insider reported on Friday.

Roger Ailes is gone. 'I pray this is NOT true because if it is, that's the total end of the FNC as we know it. Now that schadenfreude is the only joy most of us have left, we take it where we can get it.

Facebook will monetize its new premium service via advertisements that it'll play in between videos, which will boost revenue, but with lower margins.

Facebook is also trying to rope in "A-list celebrities" for other shows, and it is rumoured that one big (anonymous) star has already agreed to a deal. Thus, news of release of TV-style shows is not surprising at all. Facebook reportedly has had talks with Major League Baseball as well. The company will initially secure rights for shows and plans to recoup costs later on when it introduces the said type of ads. The social media giant has already started to test Ad Breaks in on-demand as well as live videos on Facebook.

With a plethora of streaming services available, it's anybody's guess if Facebook's 2 billion-plus users will seek out the content in the "video" tab or not.

Facebook announced it will hire 3,000 people over the next year to review flagged videos after a series of murders were broadcast live.
