  • Rick Maddison was shot dead by Queensland police after killing an officer the day before

Wayne Lyons, who lives on Wallers Road, said he saw four police cars chasing a four-wheel-drive before they disappeared into the trees.

"Police are now at the scene of an incident in the Lockyer Valley this afternoon where an officer has been injured", police said in a statement.

Assistant Commissioner Tony Wright told reporters Maddison was "challenged by police" after he attempted to escape.

Police commissioner Ian Stewart jhad told a press conference late on Monday night that police wanted to resolve the stand-off "as peacefully as humanly possible".

Senior Constable Forte was a father of two who served with the Queensland Police Service for more than 15 years and was part of Toowoomba's Tactical Crime Squad.

Residents were told to run by police as the siege began yesterday afternoon.

Police are now hunting the alleged killer, who is also believed to be wanted on a number of other charges.

The incident occurred around 2.20pm as police were attempting to intercept a vehicle on Wellers Road at Seventeen Mile.

The fugitive fled into nearby bushland and subsequently fired at a police helicopter, AAP reported.

Tornado watch in effect for Lake, Volusia, Marion, Flagler, Sumter counties
In addition to possible tornadoes, storms could bring gusty, damaging winds of more than 60 miles per hour and small hail. The fire department received damage from the twister, he said, as well as one mobile home that was hit "pretty hard".

As the narrative typically reads, since Australian police rarely shoot anyone, officers in America must not be doing enough to prevent using force.

Nine said neighbours had heard gunfire coming from Maddison's property over the last couple of months.

"Every day, the courageous officers of the Queensland Police Service put their lives on the line when they go to work", she said in a statement.

Police cordoned off a large section of Seventeen Mile, forcing some locals to sleep in their cars.

Lockyer Valley mayor Tanya Milligan reinforced the police advice for residents to remain inside and expressed her condolences for the police officer's family.

This was followed by what Mr Lyons described as gunfire that "sounded like a machinegun" and what he thought sounded like pistol shots in return.

'As you would well imagine, the whole family is devastated.

"It is just exceptionally sad".
