Real opened up a three-point lead at the top with a 4-1 win over Celta Vigo on Wednesday, returning to the league's summit for the first time since April 23 when they lost to Barca.

The game had been due to take place in February but was rescheduled after the roof of the Balaidos stadium was damaged in a storm.

Defender Marcelo, who set up Karim Benzema's goal, felt Madrid impressively tamed a motivated Celta outfit, though he urged his team-mates not to begin the celebrations until the job is done against Malaga.

"I didn't celebrate it like a goal scored against the best team in the world, but I must give it my all for Malaga", he said.

Real Madrid can nearly touch the La Liga title after a five year wait, needing only to avoid defeat to Malaga on Sunday to grab the trophy from the hands of arch rivals Barcelona.

His first came early, as he smashed left-footed through the legs of Gustavo Cabral and past Sergio to take Real beyond Barcelona and also to surpass Jimmy Greaves, the former English striker.

Lionel Messi is the top scorer this season in the big five European leagues alongside Edinson Cavani (35).

United, criticized for playing cautiously under Mourinho, has scored just two goals in its last five games.

"The most hard part is still to come even though we're getting closer (to the title) every day", Zidane told reporters. 'We have a very good squad with lots of good young players and others with experience.

Madrid are on course for a league and Champions League double, with Zidane's side bidding to become the first to defend the trophy in its modern format when they meet Juventus in the final on June 3.

The 25-year-old playmaker has been tipped to leave the Santiago Bernabeu in the coming summer transfer window after having failed to convince Zinedine Zidane to deserve a regular plans in his line-up.

'I have been rested a bit more this year in order to be in good shape at the end of the season.

For his part, Malaga president Abdullah Al-Thani has reacted angrily to press speculation over Michel and late last month sent out a tweet in Arabic responding to a question on whether his team would beat Madrid: "With the help of God, we'll beat them on the pitch", it read.
