Ariana Grande Benefit Concert Bieber Steals the Show ... Breaks Down Onstage

USA pop singer Ariana Grande headlined a star-studded benefit concert in Manchester yesterday that was both joyful and mournful, in aid of victims of the bombing that rocked the city last month, as security fears ran high after attackers in London killed seven people.

Ariana Grande said she changed her plans for the One Love Manchester concert after meeting a mother who lost her daughter in the terror attack at her show.

The lyrics to her hit love ballads seemed to take on special resonance in the wake of the May 22 attack: "I'm stronger than I've been before", Grande sang in "Break Free" as the audience cheered.

It was performed by students from Manchester's Chetham's School of Music the day after the attack, and was spontaneously sung by mourners after a moment of silence in the town's city center.

Some concertgoers clutched signs reading "For our angels" in tribute to the 22 people who were killed and dozens more injured when a suicide bomber set off a blast after Grande's concert at Manchester Arena on May 22.

Liam Gallagher, Niall Horan, Katy Perry and Justin Bieber were among others who told the crowd and the audiences all over the world watching, that love is stronger than hate.

"I want to thank you so much for coming together and being so loving and strong", she said.

Police asked fans not to bring bags and there were lengthy searches of each person admitted to the cricket stadium amid fears that there could be yet another attack just 24 hours after the incidents in London.

"She told me Olivia would have wanted to hear the hits", Grande said, before launching into her popular song "Side to Side". "I wanna take a moment to introduce the next performer who's been my idol since I was 11 years old", said Ariana, introducing Imogen, who sang "Hide and Seek".

Ahead of the concert, Grande visited the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital, where many of her young fans are being treated.

Fellow fans Jasmine Mayers and Lydia Smith said they came to the concert "to show support to the victims' families".

"We will continue in honor of the ones we lost, their loved ones, my fans and all affected by this tragedy", she added. "The love that we have here is the medicine that we need right now". "When I saw you guys all rallying together last week, it was a sight to behold".

Authorities have said the attack started with a van plowing into pedestrians and then involved three men using large knives to attack people in bars and restaurants at a nearby market.

"(God) loves you and he's here for you.

"We were there in Manchester (arena) as well, I was hit".
