  • After several delays NASA creating artificial clouds in space with rocket successfully launched

NASA launched a two-stage Terrier-Improved Malemute sounding rocket early Thursday.

'The Terrier-Improved Malemute launched this morning, June 29, at 4:25 a.m.

It left eerie, ethereal plumes of blue-green and red in its wake.

Vapour tracers are artificial clouds that allow scientists to track the movement of particles through space.

After a month of trying, NASA finally launched one of its small sounding rockets from the coast of Virginia, creating a delightful mix of colorful clouds in the upper atmosphere.

Cosby buoyant as jury deliberates
The 79-year-old comedian told the judge that he decided not to take the stand after discussing it with his legal representation. Each carries a maximum 10-year prison term, though the counts could be merged at sentencing if he is convicted.

The rocket lifted off from NASA's Wallops Flight Facility in Virginia, and its flight lasted about 8 minutes.

The aim of NASA's Thursday morning launch is to further study the ionosphere, a layer of the Earth's atmosphere that is ionized - ionization refers to an atom receiving a positive or negative charge and becoming, yep, ions - by solar and cosmic radiation.

About 4 to 6 minutes into takeoff, 10 canisters released barium, strontium and cupric oxide, which interacted with each other to form colorful vapor.

The rocket's launch had been delayed several times since May 31, with the last attempt, on June 24, foiled by extensive cloud cover.

Clear skies while preferred, were not required, on this particular mission with blue-green and red artificial clouds being produced as part the test - this occurred approximately 4 and 5.5 minutes after launch. They were visible along the mid-Atlantic coastline from North Carolina as far north as NY, and could be seen as far west as Charlottesville, Virginia, according to NASA.
