  • Houston-bound Southwest flight diverted to Corpus Christi due to disruptive passenger, airline says

A statement from the airline read that the captain of flight 4519 chose to land at Corpus Christi International Airport after the crew became concerned about the behavior of one of the passengers.

One witness said that the woman spent the first few hours of the flight standing in the aisle yelling sporadically, until flight attendants attempted to get her to settle down.

Due to differences in air pressure, experts say it would be nearly impossible for a passenger to open the door of an aircraft during a flight.

"She was still allowed on the plane". In the video, the woman is apparently walking backwards.

The station reports that the police chief for the district identified the officer as Pamela Minchew, who is brand new to the department.

CCIA officials say their public safety officers were in contact with the Southwest pilot to assist the passenger off the plane.

Daniel Gonzales said on Twitter: "I'm on this flight!" The person is in custody and being questioned by law enforcement. "But the staff handled everything very well".

The plane landed without incident and local officers met the jet at the gate "and removed the disruptive passenger", Southwest said in the statement.

She reportedly wrote the words, "Help me" on beverage napkins.

The Southwest flight from Los Angeles was delayed in Corpus Christi for about two and a half hours before touching down in Houston.

Kristy Gillentine, a former journalist and passenger on the flight, said her fellow passengers gave Minchew a warm welcome when she walked back on board the plane.

Because the incident happened in the air, it falls under the jurisdiction of the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
