  • The Redhead Is Being Changed: Pirates Of The Caribbean Attraction At Disney Parks Getting New Look In 2018

"At this rate I fear that the entire ride will disappear one day as pirates were not historically moral nor politically correct".

In a rendering posted to the blog, a sign that now reads "Auction: Take a wench for a bride" will read "Auction: Surrender yer loot".

Disneyland spokeswoman Suzi Brown tells the Orange County Register and the Los Angeles Times on Thursday that the changes will be made at the Paris park in July and at the Anaheim park next year. "Years ago, the scene that comes after the auction scene, which used to have pirates chasing women, was changed to pirates chasing women for food, and one where a woman was chasing a pirate", it reports.

The move - which will concern the ride at Disneyland Paris, and next year at Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World in Orlando - has earned praise from some fans and ridicule from others. Via those lifelike audio animatronic characters, we watch a pirate sell off women at auction, with the crowd chanting "We want the redhead!" In place of the line of wenches, the new scene will feature a group of people being forced to surrender their possessions to the pirates.

This is not the first time Pirates of the Caribbean has undergone extensive refurbishments. "Why is Disneyland still asking us to laugh at an overt depiction of sexual slavery in its popular Pirates of the Caribbean ride?"

Insurance study ties legal pot to boost in car crash claims
They compared these rates to those of eight control states that had not enacted any significant changes in their marijuana laws . The study found that collision claims following legalisation are up 16% in Colorado, 6.2% in Washington and 4.5% in Oregon.

In the current version of the ride, the scene depicts a market in which women are auctioned off, which, though someone somewhere apparently have thought it made some sense in the context of the pirate-themed ride, doesn't exactly send a message of empowerment to visitors.

Back in 2006, the park added in characters from Pirates of the Carribean film franchise, including Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow and Geoffrey Rush's Captain Barbossa.

Imagineering Ambassador and Disney Legend Marty Sklar, who retired as Head of Imagineering in 2009 and worked closely with Walt Disney, said changes like this are a part of Walt's vision for the park.

Concept art for the revised auction scene that will debut in early 2018 in Pirates of the Caribbean at Disneyland. I can't think of a single attraction that has not been enhanced and improved, some over and over again.
