  • Jammu and Kashmir: Armymen allegedly assault police officers in Ganderbal

An assistant sub-inspector (ASI) and six personnel of the Jammu and Kashmir Police were injured after they were allegedly thrashed by armymen in Ganderbal following an altercation on Friday night. While the police yesterday said an FIR was lodged against the Army personnel involved in the incident, the Army called it "a minor altercation" and said the issue has been resolved. "The naka party of the Police Station Gund (Ganderbal) headed by ASI Ghulam Rasool stopped the said vehicles as per the directions", the statement said.

The scuffle allegedly broke out after a team of armymen in civilian clothes, returning from the Amarnath Yatra last night, was stopped at a barricade in Gund by policemen as no pilgrims are allowed to travel during the night after the recent terror attack on Amarnath Yatris in which eight were killed.

"No major injuries were suffered in the incident and the matter has been resolved by personal intervention of senior officers", he said.

The injured policemen have been moved to a hospital and an FIR has been registered against the armymen for attacking a police station and thrashing policemen on duty. As per the reports, the Army men were travelling beyond cut off time for vehicles to pass.

They said the army personnel headed by captain Shukla barged into the Gund police station, ransacked it, damaging the records kept there, and assaulted the on-duty policemen.

The incident took place in the Gund area of J&K's Ganderbal district.

According to Indian Express, the soldiers - travelling in four different vehicles - escaped forcibly from the naka point and raided the police station.

"Measures to prevent recurrence have been taken", he added. "This requires immediate clarification/action by the authorities", Mr Abdullah, who is the working president of National Conference (NC), wrote on micro-blogging site twitter. "Two of them have received grievous injuries", he added.
