Ginobili and the Spurs, league sources told ESPN, were busy Tuesday finalizing a contract for the Argentinian wing to play at least through the 2017-18 season.

So, to put the icing on the cake, Ginobili confirmed on Twitter that he will return to San Antonio for another season.

While Ginobili has been an effective and deadly scorer off the bench for the Spurs over the years, the Argentine did take a big step back in 2016-17 - averaging 7.5 points per game in just 18.7 minutes out on the court.

A four-time National Basketball Association champion, Ginobili has played in 992 regular-season games and made 212 postseason appearances, while being named an All-Star on two occasions, in addition to garnering all-NBA recognition twice.

While Tim Duncan was the superstar player in San Antonio for the Spurs for almost 20 years, the Spurs don't win four more NBA Championships without Ginobili's contribution.

The soon-to-be 40-year-old has not publicly divulged his plans following the Spurs' ouster in the Western Conference final by the eventual champion Golden State Warriors. The Spurs capped Ginobili's rookie season (2002-03) with their second league title.

Ginobili ranks in the top five in Spurs franchise history in games (992), points (13,467), assists (3,838) and steals (1,349). No player in the modern era had embraced the sixth man role like Ginobili did for head coach Gregg Popovich in San Antonio.

"I always said that I wanted to let it sink in for three weeks, four weeks, whatever, and then I will sit with my wife and see how it feels", said Ginobili, who became a free agent on July 1.
