Trump addresses concerns over Qatar in call with Arab leaders

The list of demands to overcome the crisis comprised 13 points, including the closure of the Al-Jazeera TV channel, the end of diplomatic relations with Iran and the closure of a Turkish military base in the emirate.

This comes as Qatar delivered its response to a list of 13 demands from Saudi-led Arab regimes that cut have ties with it and imposed a land, air and sea embargo sparking a major diplomatic crisis in the Persian Gulf region.

The alliance of the Gulf States has said that it will submit its formal response in a letter delivered to Kuwait on Monday.

Saudi Arabia's permanent representative to the United Nations Abdullah Al-Moallemi said on Twitter that Qatar had failed to take opportunities offered by its neighbors in the past to stop supporting terrorism.

Qatari Foreign Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani on Saturday said his country wouldn't concede any demands that threaten its sovereignty or violate global law, and was prepared to let pass Monday's deadline for complying with the bloc's 13 demands.

Al Thani also said Qatar was "willing to engage in providing the proper condition for further dialogue", but his Saudi counterpart said the demands were non-negotiable.

"To those who demand that Al Jazeera be shut down and that people's right to the truth be suppressed, we too have demands", said key Al Jazeera presenters and reporters.

Qatari officials have already rejected all the demands, but an official response was expected to be sent to Saudi Arabia today.

The US State Department, which is an ally of all countries involved, endorsed Kuwait's role as a mediator and called for both sides in the dispute to exercise restraint.

"He reiterated the importance of stopping terrorist financing and discrediting extremist ideology", the White House said.
