  • Chinese tourists arrested after Hitler salutes in Germany

TWO Chinese tourists learned the hard way that it is illegal to perform the Nazi salute in Germany after they were arrested for raising the Sieg Hailing outside parliament in Berlin on Saturday.

Germany has strict laws against using symbols and salutations linked to Adolf Hitler and the Nazis.

The Chinese tourist duo's decision to make the salute outside the Reichstag is also particularly ill-judged, with the building's destruction in a fire in 1933 leading to the Nazis' increasing their power in Germany.

Berlin said the men were seen in front of the building that houses the German parliament making the "Heil Hitler" salute and photographing each other with their mobile phones, Reuters reported.

Police said in a statement that the men were questioned at a nearby precinct but released after leaving a security deposit of 500 euros ($A747) each.

The Edmond Fire Department even captured wonderful video from the moment the quake struck. More than an hour after the quake, nearly all customers had their power restored.

Several other European nations also ban the gesture.

"A probe on suspicion of using the symbols of anti-constitutional organisations was opened against the two Chinese men, aged 36 and 49".

The salute - with the right arm straight and angled slightly up, palm down - was used as a greeting and a way of expressing devotion to Hitler under the Third Reich.

News of this latest arrest quickly made its way to China's online community, where many expressed support for the actions of Germany's law enforcement authorities, reports the South China Morning Post.
