  • Elliott led the NFL in total rushing yards for the 2016 season

Miami Dolphins rookie middle linebacker Raekwon McMillan will miss the entire 2017 season after suffering a torn ACL in his right knee during the team's preseason opener on Thursday.

The NFL announced this afternoon that the Dallas Cowboys running back is suspended for the first six games of the season for violating the league's player conduct policy.

Not only will NFLPA executive director DeMaurice Smith's team help Ezekiel Elliott appeal his six-game suspension, but the union chief also wants to see the NFL's investigative process quickened.

If the appeal is upheld, Elliott will be able to return to the Cowboys on October 23, the day after the teams' week 7 game against San Francisco.

Elliott also said he recognizes that this is a big distraction and disruption to "my family, friends, teammates, the Dallas Cowboys organization as well as my fans - and for that I'm sincerely sorry". I admit that I am far from flawless, but I plan to continue to work very hard, on and off the field, to mature and earn the great opportunity that I have been given.

Dallas Cowboys star running back #Ezekiel Elliott has finally been handed a punishment by the #NFL after months of speculation and waiting.

However, the league continued with their own investigation and think they have found enough evidence against him to warrant a suspension.

Here's The Moment Ryan Tannehill Hurt His Knee
Tannehill and the Dolphins were awaiting the results of an MRI on his left knee after he limped off the field. After a blistering day of high blood pressure readings, Dolphins fans can relax and take a breath.

The NFL said in a statement Friday that its investigators interviewed more than a dozen witnesses, including the alleged victim, and reviewed photographic evidence.

"The league also consulted with medical experts", according to NFL statement.

Ezekiel Elliott was just suspended 6 games by the NFL.

After going 13-3 previous year and narrowly missing out on a trip to the NFC Championship, there's been plenty of excitement in Texas regarding the Cowboys' upcoming season.

Last September, the office of Columbus City Attorney Richard Pfeiffer cited conflicting and inconsistent information in the evidence in deciding against criminal charges.

There's no doubt losing Elliott, the league's reigning leader in rushing yards, for six games would be a massive setback for the Cowboys offense.
