  • Omarosa appearance at black journalist conference doesn't go well

There's some "heavy drama" in New Orleans at the National Association of Black Journalists conference after organizers chose to add top Trump aide Omarosa Manigault to a panel.

These sort of professional media meetups are typically musty affairs with awkward smalltalk and cash bars.

When asked about President Trump's recent comments that police should rough up people they are detaining, Manigault-Newman said his comments were wrong.

Several women in the audience, including writer Jamilah Lemieux and Black Lives Matter activist Brittany Packnett, turned their backs to Omarosa after several minutes.

She maintained she uses her White House position to bring people together to discuss policy. "You can ask a question, but I'm not going to listen to a lecture". For her part, Manigault knows she isn't popular with other African-Americans, and she resents their lack of support.

When she was pressed and hectored about "why she'd [taken] a job in an administration seen by many in the room as hostile to African Americans", Manigault reportedly reminded the audience "you don't walk away from the table".

The Huffington Post reports that the panel ended when Manigault-Newman walked off of the stage as NABJ President Sarah Glover explained why she was invited to speak.

In response, Mr. Gordon began to walk closer to her. Ms. Manigault-Newman, who had been seated, stood up and walked across the stage and said Mr. Gordon was being "aggressive".

Gordon maintained that it was appropriate to ask questions about her work in the White House, though later said that the event was reaching "the point of diminished returns". "It's on the front burner because I'm pushing the issue and raising the issue", Manigault said to a booing audience.

"I said, please don't be too nice", Trump said in a video of his speech to police officers on Long Island July 28.

Gordon later suggested that there was a debate among the panel organizers about whether Manigault-Newman would be asked about the Trump administration during the event. She claimed she was there to talk about her personal experience with violence, as some of her family members have been murdered.

When Gordon again went back to talking about President Trump, Omarosa went off, and the two were essentially yelling in each other's faces.
