While Washington has denied the accusations, the troops of the Syrian Democratic Force (SDF), a predominantly Kurdish militia backed by the U.S. military, have recently attacked positions of the Syrian Arab Army in the Deir ez-Zor governorate, to assert control over the oil- and gas-rich eastern part of Syria. Russian Federation has denied the report.

Meanwhile, Syrian media reported that government and allied troops have seized Maadan, a town north of Deir el-Zour city and south of Raqqa, which has been scene to intense fighting with Islamic State militants.

Moscow said it was responding to allegations from the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which on Monday said six civilians had been killed in the province, including a woman and a child.

The province of Idlib witnessed a period of calm after it was designated a de-escalation zone in May but fierce bombardment has resumed there in recent weeks.

"At the moment the operation to liberate the city continues".

Aircraft of the Russian Air Force task group in Syria carried out 10 attacks over the past 24 hours on terrorist facilities in the Syrian northwestern province of Idlib with all targets located far from residential areas, Defense Ministry spokesman Major General Igor Konashenkov said on Tuesday.

Russia's Defence Ministry denied the report.

"The death of the Russian commander is the price, the bloody price for the two-faced American policy in Syria", Ryabkov was quoted by state-run RIA Novosti and other news agencies as saying.

Russian Federation is a key sponsor of a plan to implement four "de-escalation zones" in Syria, including in Eastern Ghouta, southern Syria, central Syria and the northwest of the country.

"The American side declares that it is interested in the elimination of [IS].but some of its actions show it is doing the opposite and that some political and geopolitical goals are more important for Washington", he said.

Both the U.S. and Russian Federation have embedded special forces with their respective partners and are supporting their advances with aggressive airstrikes.
