The rains caused water-logging in several areas, which led to traffic snarls in various parts of the city.

The Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamshabad here came in handy for hundreds of passengers on Tuesday night after 16 Mumbai bound flights were diverted to Shamshabad since a domestic flight had overshot the Mumbai runway and landed in mud.

Operations at the Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport were worst affected with over 50 flights being cancelled to and from Mumbai on Wednesday.

A similar forecast has been issued for south Konkan as well.The IMD (India Meteorological Department) has also predicted that North Madhya Maharashtra would get heavy rainfall at isolated places in the 24 hours beginning September 21.

Meanwhile, in north-east India, the authorities in the remote Himalayan state of Sikkim said six people were killed in a landslide yesterday when their home was swept away following a monsoon deluge.

The runway will be closed off for maintainance till 2pm today.
