The visit by Kuwait's Emir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmad to Washington is "historic both in the timing and the level of the accompanying delegation" and comes at a "very delicate time due to the challenges and crises in the Arab region", the Kuwaiti ambassador to the United States has said.

Secretary of State Rex Tillerson, after meetings with senior Kuwaiti officials, said the USA and Kuwait would take new steps to resolve a 3-month-old dispute that pits a Saudi-led coalition, including the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Egypt, against Qatar over its alleged support for terrorist groups and Iran.

At a joint news conference with Trump on Thursday, Sheikh Sabah said he remained hopeful a resolution could be reached. It recently restored full diplomatic ties to Iran, with which it shares a massive offshore natural gas field that makes its citizens among the world's wealthiest.

"The crisis also extends to many other countries around the world that have been unable to declare their position because of Qatar's internal penetration in their societies, which made them concerned about possible consequences, especially that Qatar has precedents in supporting coups and in funding terrorism, extremist ideology and hate speech".

"A great part of them will be resolved", he said.

We'll come together very quickly.

The 44-person medical team will join 36 current Nebraska National Guard crew members now working in relief efforts. The National Guard took over a private airport in Brookshire, where they are preparing 8,000 pounds of supplies.

That hope appeared in jeopardy early Friday with a statement by the boycotting countries saying "any dialogue on meeting their demands should not be preceded by any prior conditions".

Trump also warned that while he would prefer "not going the route of the military", military action against Pyongyang was something that "certainly could happen", agencies reported.

"The Palestinians and Israelis, we are discussing, we are working".

"I think we have a chance of doing it", he said.

Kuwait has been serving as mediator, with US backing, but without results thus far.
