Uber to make concessions in an attempt to reverse ban in London

Transport for Londonsaid the decision was based on the way drivers' background checks were completed, how criminal offences were reported and the use of software created to stop regulators accessing its app.
Lyft, Uber's closest U.S. rival in the taxi-hailing business, met repeatedly with officials from London's transport regulator over the past year, a sign it may be targeting the city for global expansion.
In this case, Transport for London has explicitly blamed Uber's corporate conduct, detailing "a number of issues which have potential public safety and security implications". The company will be allowed to continue operating throughout the appeals process.
However, for many in London, pricey black cabs are just too expensive or inconvenient (try hailing one when it is raining....) Uber has revolutionised how young people in particular travel around the city. "On behalf of everyone at Uber globally, I apologise for the mistakes we've made".
Transport for London (TfL) announced last Friday that Uber would not be issued with a private hire operator's licence once its current licence is up on 30 September.
It also warned that its fleet of 40,000 drivers would suffer from TfL's decision.
"I welcome innovative new companies that help Londoners by providing a better and more affordable service - but providing an innovative service is not an excuse for not following the rules", he said in a statement.
In the meantime, Londoners can continue to use Uber as usual until any challenge is concluded.
The initial background checks were carried out by a third party but TfL deemed them inadequate following a review.
Around one in four (23 per cent) said the drivers were "more pleasant" while 26 per cent felt safer in an Uber auto.
Still, Uber's got a serious problem on its hands right now and may lose a substantial market, unless it can get its licensing figured out post-haste.
The trade union of employees, GMB has, however, hoped to reverse that other cities will follow London in banning Uber, accused of "social dumping".
Uber also wants to meet with and talk to TfL so that it can further improve the way it operates.
Taxi firm Uber is likely to remain on London roads for more than a year despite being banned by Transport for London bigwigs.
