  • Edmonton Police Service homicide detectives are investigating after a man's body was dug up from under a garage near 118 Avenue and 96 Street in north

The injured officer was released from the hospital Sunday and was expected to make a full recovery, despite having been stabbed several times, Edmonton Police Chief Rod Knecht said.

A man has been arrested in connection with what Edmonton police are calling an act of terrorism.

Police said an Islamic State (IS) group flag was found in one of the vehicles, according to media reports.

The driver is then seen getting out of the auto and appears to stab the officer multiple times before fleeing.

The truck driver then immediately fled the scene, but police officers pursued it as the driver deliberately attempted to hit pedestrians.

"It is believed at this time that these two incidents are related", Knecht said.

The officer involved in the stabbing was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

He then ploughed into four pedestrians leaving them with multiple injuries before he was arrested after flipping the van on to its side.

They said they now believe the suspect acted alone, but haven't ruled out the possibility of others being involved.

Police officer attacked with auto and knife while pedestrians targeted in high-speed chase in western city of Edmonton.

Officers say the driver intentionally swerved the van off the main road to mount the footpath, where he hit four pedestrians. The suspect, believed to be 30 years old, fled when his name was recognized as the owner of the vehicle used in the initial attack.

Police on the scene were able to identify the driver from the car's registration information.

Edmonton police released grainy footage of a auto ramming a crowd control barricade with a uniformed officer standing beside it.

Police set up roadblocks around the city of 800,000, and just before midnight police pulled over the U-Haul truck.

Police launched a manhunt for the suspect.

Knecht said Edmonton police were working with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's National Security Enforcement Team and other Canadian security agencies.

Members of Edmonton's Muslim community were dismayed at the attacks. "We know that Canada's strength comes from our diversity, and we will not be cowed by those who seek to divide us or promote fear", Trudeau said.
