Legendary LSU QB YA Tittle passes away at age of 90

Former LSU great and Pro Football Hall of Fame quarterback Y.A. Tittle died Sunday night at age 90.

A bloodied Y.A. Tittle kneeling on the field in 1964 is one of the most famous sports photos ever. Tittle's NFL career started in 1948 after the Detroit Lions made him the No. 6 overall pick in the NFL Draft that year.

Before making the jump to pro football, Tittle played two seasons in Baton Rouge. Rather, the maturing quarterback hit his prime with the Giants and drove them to three straight National Football League title amusements.

Tittle played at LSU from 1944 through 1947 as the Tigers' first T-formation quarterback.

The picture came after a play where Tittle was hit so hard that he suffered a concussion and a cracked sternum.

The next season, Tittle broke the NFL single-season record by passing for 36 touchdowns, becoming the first player in league history to have at least 30 TD passes in consecutive seasons.

Over his career, Tittle passed for 28,339 yards with 212 touchdowns and 221 interceptions. The two numbers have stood the trial of time.

Tittle was named the MVP of an amusement that finished in a 0-0 tie with Arkansas.

Before turning professional, the Texas-born quarterback, born Yelberton Abraham Tittle on October 24, 1926, played college football at Louisiana State University.
