The contract that has been on the table for Russell Westbrook to agree upon for a couple of months has finally been signed, which will result in a deal that will keep him in Oklahoma City for another five years.

The person spoke Friday on condition of anonymity because the team had not disclosed the deal.

The agreement caps a tremendous offseason for the Thunder, who watched Kevin Durant leave for the Golden State Warriors last summer.

Russell Westbrook signed the biggest contract in National Basketball Association history on Friday, which just so happened to be former teammate Kevin Durant's birthday.

In the statement, Westbrook said there was no place he'd rather be than Oklahoma City and that he was "so honored" to continue his career with the Thunder.

China Agrees to 'Vigorous Enforcement' of Sanctions On North Korea
Although any conflict on the Korean Peninsula would risk a wider conflagration, some officials in the administration of U.S. China has in the past been a key supporter of the North Korean communist regime, but that support may be dying out.

The deal kicks in at the start of the 2018-19 season, which means Westbrook is set to earn about $233 million over the next six seasons, the most money for which an National Basketball Association player has ever been guranteed.

The NBA's insane offseason continues. Keeping Westbrook was crucial to the Thunder's chances of remaining competitive in the Western Conference. The Thunder will be a contender once again this year, and with Westbrook's relentless spirit, always a threat to make a postseason charge. No way. The mayor of Oklahoma City responded to Westbrook's decision with this pronouncement. I chronicled the evolution of Russell Westbrook from reckless rookie to riveting league MVP. In classic Westbrook fashion, he did it quietly, at 2:15 CST on the last Friday in September, he signed the richest deal in the National Basketball Association. As Metro US noted, the dollar amount on that extension offer is not going to increase any more even if Westbrook waits until the deadline, so that is likely not the reason for why the reigning MVP has still not signed with the Thunder long-term. While there's no indication of decline there yet, Westbrook's skill set might not age as well as those of players who are bigger and shoot more accurately.

Kiwi Steven Adams' teammate has inked a deal to stay with the Thunder for another six years at the cost of $US233.5 million ($NZ323.8m), putting an end to any speculation regarding his potential departure. Oklahoma City is not a small market and typically has trouble attracting top free agents.

While Westbrook's future is settled, and George's now lurches to the forefront, Anthony dismissed any talk of what he might be thinking long term. He also stated past year that Westbrook reminds him of his younger self, since he feels that he still has so much more to prove for the rest of his career.
