  • Radio Host Tweeden Accuses Sen. Franken of Nonconsensual Groping Kissing

"We did the line leading up to the kiss and then he came at me, put his hand on the back of my head, mashed his lips against mine and aggressively stuck his tongue in my mouth", Tweeden said.

Leeann Tweeden says Franken forcibility kissed and groped her once while rehearsing a comedy skit they were performing together for service members during a 2006 USO tour in the Middle East. Al Franken, D-MN, of kissing and groping her without her consent.

A fellow performer on Franken's 2006 USO tour to entertain service members overseas accused Franken on Thursday of forcibly kissing her during a skit rehearsal.

Leeann Tweeden accuses Minnesota's Franken in an essay on the website of California radio station KABC, where she anchors a morning talk show.

On the tour's flight back to the United States, Franken groped Tweeden's breasts while she was asleep - an act Tweeden discovered afterwards when she saw a photograph.

Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand had said Franken's earlier statement - in which he dismissed the photo as "clearly meant to be funny" - was insufficient and that she believes Tweeden's accusations, but wouldn't comment on whether her Democratic colleague should resign, according to The Hill.

According to Tweeden's account, Franken wrote a bawdy script that included a kiss for the two to perform onstage. "You forcibly kissed me without my consent, grabbed my breasts while I was sleeping and had someone take a photo of you doing it, knowing I would see it later, and be ashamed".

Franken said in a statement that he sends his "sincerest apologies" to Tweeden.

Angry but anxious about what going public might do to her career, Tweeden didn't speak out at the time. Additionally, there is an incriminating photo that shows the senator groping her as she lay asleep.

The Democrat Franken rose to fame as a comedian and writer for NBC's Saturday Night Live, and some of his quips and performances were touchy subjects well before he ran to represent Minnesota in the Senate. I strongly condemn this behavior and the Senate Ethics Committee must open an investigation. "It isn't amusing. It's completely inappropriate", he said. Other senators, including Democratic senators Kristen Gillibrand and Tammy Duckworth, spoke out about the incident and supported an ethics investigation into Sen.

"I believe the Ethics Committee should review the matter", he said in a brief statement, calling the claims "credible".

Women who come forward are fearless and deserve to be respected. "I think the tide is turning, and what about all the women who don't have microphones and a voice and can say something and it's all over the news?" "Regardless of party, harassment and assault are completely unacceptable - in the workplace or anywhere else".
