The paper added that intensive meetings were held on Monday night in Cyprus between Egyptian and French officials joining President Abdol Fattah Al-Sisi in Nicosia, where an Egyptian-Cypriot-Greek was scheduled to be held.

Referring to this month's sudden resignation of Prime Minister Saad al-Hariri, Aoun said the "last governmental crisis" had "passed" but it was not a trivial issue.

"With regard to the political situation in Lebanon, I will go to Beirut in the coming days, I will participate in the independence celebrations, and it is there that I will make known my position on these subjects after meeting President (Michel) Aoun", Hariri said after holding talks with French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris.

Lebanese Prime Minister Saad Hariri has returned to Beirut more than two weeks after announcing while in Saudi Arabia that he had resigned his post. Aoun, a Christian, is a political ally of Hezbollah. The two leaders emphasized that preserving Lebanon's national unity and the country's national interests was a top priority, according to the statement. He has, however, managed to pursue regional policies different from those of Riyadh, particularly in Syria and Yemen, without inflicting serious damage on relations with the Saudis.
