President Trump is defending Alabama GOP Senate nominee Roy Moore who has been accused by multiple women of sexual assaulting them when they were teenagers and Moore was in his 30s.

The President also expressed vehement opposition to Doug Jones, the Democrat in the race and Moore's only major opponent.

Trump signaled his support for Moore by saying he has looked at Democrat Doug Jones' record and, "it's awful on crime, it's bad on the border, it's awful on the military".

Moore is facing several allegations of gross sexual misconduct involving minors, from incidents that allegedly happened almost 40 years ago. If you look at what is really going on and you look at all the things that have happened over the past 48 hours, he totally denies it.

Republican Roy Moore's campaign is lashing out again at the news media and accusations of sexual misconduct, but refusing to answer reporters' questions.

Corfman said that since the story in the Washington Post there have been "a lot of people that have come out and have said that because of my courage they're able to do the same". "I'll be letting you know next week", he said.

But Trump on Tuesday left the door open to campaigning with Moore.

Asked whether he would actively campaign for Moore, Trump said he would let reporters know next week.

"He says it didn't happen", Trump added, "and you have to listen to him also".

Trump's Tuesday remarks put space between him and the Republican establishment, which has backed away from Moore.

Remember these words: "We don't need a liberal person in there, a Democrat".

"Forty years is a long time", Trump said, questioning why it took so long for Moore's accusers to come forward.

"Doug Jones in Alabama, folks, don't be fooled", Conway said. That if Moore says he didn't do these things, then he must not have. "The women are Trump voters". "He'll be a vote against tax cuts". He is weak on crime.

Moore, a former Alabama Supreme Court chief justice, is the Republicans' only realistic chance to win the special December 12 election.

Moore has denied the accusations. "Forty years is a long time", Trump said, pointing to the amount of time that has passed since the alleged behavior. "I just don't think that is the direction for the party".
