Google's Chrome Will Start Removing "Failing" Ads In February

20 December, 2017, 01:09 | Author: Archie Newman

Chrome had previously pledged to block certain ad units once the CFBA's framework was in place. The Coalition for Better Ads has a list of rules and guidelines that online advertisements need to follow so they don't get blocked from Chrome, and violations include the likes of pop-ups, ads that take over your entire screen, automatically playing videos, etc.

Google will launch the Chrome browser's built-in ad-blocking service February 15 next year, the company said in a developer page update on Tuesday.

Google says that the goal of the program is to help publishers by weeding out bad ads across the internet, which could cut down on users with blanket ad blockers.

Announced on Monday, the Coalition for Better Ads Experience Program is a voluntary initiative created to improve the online ad experience for both consumers and publishers.

So again, on February 15, if your website is failing with ad standards, it won't show ads any longer in Chrome on both desktop and mobile. When those annoying ads will be eliminated, the users will never have to install an ad blocker, which stops all ads from loading, thereby, crippling the ad businesses.

We reported on rumors of future baked-in ad-blocking in Google's popular Chrome web browser back in April.

When the company joined the Coalition for Better Ads, it vowed to block those annoying ads.

Further, website owners can check out this Ad Experience Report tool that also presents screenshots and videos of ads that do no comply to the standards. If Google finds that a site is failing to meet the coalition's advertising standards for more than 30 days, Chrome will remove all ads from that site.

Of course, Google is a very influential company, and if they start taking membership of the CBA into account as an important SEO signal then it is likely that the vast majority of companies will fall in line with CBA guidance.
