  • House of Cards to resume production for final season without Kevin Spacey

Ted Sarandos, Netflix's chief content officer, revealed the news at UBS's Global Media and Communications Conference in NY today. Deadline reports that it will be an abridged season of eight-episodes used to wrap things up in a satisfying manner.

Content chief at Netflix, Ted Sarandos, said that Robin Wright, who plays Claire Underwood, will be elevated to the central role in the series. "We were really excited we could get to an agreement... for the conclusion of the show", Sarandos said at UBS's Global Media and Communications Conference in NY.

Netflix and Media Rights Capital have finally figured out their way forward on House of Cards. Production on these episodes will kick off early next year, and we're starting to get a good sense as to how the show is going to work in the wake of Kevin Spacey's firing amid a sexual harassment and abuse scandal. Sarandos said he was gratified to have reached the deal for the team of 370 people who directly work on the show and for "the 2,000 people in Baltimore" who have jobs working on "HOC".

Sarandos added that the season will provide closure for fans.

House of Cards without Spacey is just the latest workaround directors and production companies have had to come up with since allegations against the actor came out over the past few weeks.

Spacey also has been fired from a film about Gore Vidal in which he was to play the title character, and he was replaced by Christopher Plummer in the soon-to-release "All the Money in the World", forcing last-minute reshoots before the film's debut December 22. She has co-starred with Spacey in the last five seasons of the hit political drama.

Allegations of "on-set sexual misconduct" by members of the House Of Cards production crew have also been levelled against Spacey.

What do you think about this decision for House of Cards season 6? "We have also decided we will not be moving forward with the release of the film Gore, which was in post-production, starring and produced by Kevin Spacey", the statement read.

Spacey has said that he owed Rapp "the sincerest apology for what would have been deeply inappropriate drunken behavior".
