It happened Tuesday while the 29-year-old was working out in California, and he's expected to be out at least six months. Since he's been tendered a contract offer, but hasn't negotiated a deal or had his salary decided by an arbitration hearing, that 30 days of pay would be prorated from last year's $11.4 million, which would be roughly $1.8 million.

Achilles injuries can be career-enders which, naturally, has many Orioles fans and executives anxious about the exceptional left-hander. Britton had been one of the club's biggest trade chips - along with third baseman Manny Machado - that could help set the Orioles' future up beyond the 2018 season, when Machado, Britton, Adam Jones and Brad Brach are all eligible for free agency. That is, of course, assuming that the achilles injury fully heals and that Britton is in shape to return. Britton finished fourth in Cy Young voting for his performance in 2016 and was the envy of many a manager throughout Major League Baseball for his dominance in the 9th inning.

Britton, who was an All-Star in 2015 and 2016, led the league two seasons ago with 47 saves and had an 0.54 ERA and 0.836 WHIP.

Unfortunately for Britton his 2017 campaign was cut short due to injury.

At this past year's MLB Trade Deadline in July, Britton was rumored to be one of the players the Orioles were contemplating trading.

Zach Britton #53 of the Baltimore Orioles in action against the New York Yankees at Yankee Stadium on September 17, 2017 in the Bronx borough of New York City. In his previous three seasons, he would rack up 120 saves with an ERA of 1.38. "Last year [being on the disabled list was disappointing], but those were minor things". Regardless, the injury to Zach Britton just delivered another body blow to an already downtrodden Orioles fanbase.
