What YouTube's New Policy Means for Channel Owners

21 January, 2018, 00:26 | Author: Jan Cross
  • Google is modifying the prerequisites for having a commercial You Tube channel

In the past, when the total number of subscribers to a YouTube channel reached 10,000, it was possible to carry ads according to the YouTube Partner Program (YPP) but in the future, it will be possible only when a channel hit 4,000 view hours over the past 12 months with 1,000 subscribers.

YouTube's Partner Program allows content creators to make money by placing ads alongside their videos.

New rules were adopted after the company conducted a thorough analysis and discussed the matter with the authors of the channels. We will begin enforcing these new requirements for existing channels in YPP beginning February 20th, 2018.

"Using these thresholds we will be able to better understand what users are making a positive contribution to the development of our community and help them earn advertising more", - say representatives of the company.

The videos being targeted are ones Google packages to advertisers as "preferred" content.

He said the actions of the U.S. don't correspond to the spirit of ally relations with Turkey. Turkey, Iran and Russian Federation , however, need a little memory jogging.

Whom will these changes affect most significantly?

The move will see Google remove advertising from a "significant" number of YouTube channels, 99% of which generated less than $100 from ads in the past year. Those affected are likely to be those making less than $100 on the program each year. Later, it was confirmed that the deceased person in question committed suicide, which in turn made even more call for YouTube to cut ties with Paul entirely. On top of the "allowed" behavior of YouTube celebrities, these new policy changes are a stinging blow to the smaller creators and community of the platform.

In the wake of the Logan Paul's suicide forest incident, YouTube announced that it is raising the subscriber and view bar for advertiser approval and channel monetization.

The goal, wrote YouTube chief product officer Neal Mohan and chief business officer Robert Kyncl in a blog post, is to keep "bad actors" from poisoning the whole ecosystem and jeopardizing everyone's livelihood. Paul's actions drew widespread condemnation for both himself and YouTube. Channels included in Google Preferred will now be manually reviewed by YouTube staff, and ads will only run on videos that have been verified to meet the guidelines. "We'll be working to schedule conversations with our creators in the months ahead so we can hear your thoughts and ideas and what more we can do to tackle that challenge", said YouTube.
