  • BBC Cuts Pay of Male Journalists After 'Pay Gap' Outcry

The BBC is struggling to end a damaging dispute about unequal pay.

What has Tony Hall said?

"The plans we're setting out today go further and are more important steps in modernising the BBC and making it fairer", he said.

"Through the year, we will continue to make changes to our on-air line-ups at a faster rate", it said. Those are big, bold commitments I'm really serious about.

"That said, when I was starting out at the BBC ..."

What else did the report find?

That can only be achieved when women and men have equal pay - without having to wait for others to help them out.

The pay issue has led to freaky situations on BBC radio and TV, with some people whose own pay packages were part of the debate presenting news programs covering the topic.

"Many people would say she does a job of equal value, working on many different outlets for the and covering a wide range of sports".

The BBC plans to close the gender pay gap among its presenters and have women in half of its on-air roles by 2020, after a pay review found a 6.8% pay gap.

Only 12 of the 42 journalists listed were women.

The Financial Times reports that health groups suffered due to Amazon's plans to enter the United States healthcare industry by teaming up with Berkshire Hathaway and JP Morgan Chase, and the Daily Express says a Whitehall leak claiming Britain will be worse off outside the European Union was slapped down by a minister as a "plot to wreck Brexit".

An update coming later this year will let you link two HomePods together for stereo sound, much like competitor speakers . The report said the iPhone maker's focus here is on music and sound quality, rather than the speaker's intelligence.

However, it is understood the will now consult staff about the report's recommendations before deciding whether to adopt them.

Nearly 150 women at the BBC have written to the Digital, Culture, Media and Sport Committee ahead of a hearing on Wednesday, claiming they had received "veiled threats" when they tried to raise the subject of equal pay.

Ahead of Tuesday's report, BBC Women submitted evidence to a parliamentary committee looking into issues of pay and equality.

Jane Garvey, presenter and member of Women, told Radio 4's The World At One she was sceptical about the findings of the PwC report - namely that there was no gender bias around pay decisions.

When questioned by Newman if he believed that gender equality was a myth, Peterson said only if she meant "in terms of outcomes".

"When I asked for it to be corrected the line manager told me "the BBC doesn't do equal pay" and that in raising the issue I was being "aggressive". Some of them as it happens are men and I'm sorry to them too. "I think I am paid properly for what I do and I'll just leave it at that".

"(With entertainment), in my experience, people do work for less at the in the entertainment world than they could get from ITV or C4 or Sky or somewhere else". "The law actually says that you don't take money away from men, you bring the women's pay up".

TV presenter Julia Bradbury has criticised the decision to give pay cuts to some high-profile male BBC stars, saying it is not the answer to controversy over equal pay.

Among those receiving pay cuts are the presenters Jeremy Vine, Huw Edwards and John Humphrys. In October, its cumbersome bureaucratic 10-level staff pay grading system was found to be shot full of holes and a 9.6% average gap between men and women's earnings was exposed.

The figure covered all staff, on and off air, and was put down to the fact there are more men in senior jobs.
