IPhone X users report screen issues when receiving incoming calls

  • Hundreds of iPhone X owners can't answer incoming calls (sometimes), Apple is looking into the issue

Several Apple iPhone X users are reporting a bug in the smartphone that is causing a delay in the display lighting during an incoming call.

Apple enjoyed its best-ever revenues of $88.3bn (£62bn) in the last three months of 2017, despite its latest iPhone range selling almost a million fewer handsets compared to the same period a year ago. Another wrote, "I can often not see an incoming call coming, can only hear it!"

Some users say the screen only wakes up after 10 seconds, while others say when the bug strikes the screen remains off until the caller hangs up or the recipient's voicemail kicks in. As of today, February 4, nearly 800 iPhone X users have signaled this problem (or variations of it) over at Apple's official support forum.

It is unclear how many people are affected by the issue but the Financial Times reported that hundreds of customers have complained.

As per Apple, a small percentage of iPhone 7 units might show "No Service" in the status bar even if there's plenty of cellular coverage around. "Whenever I receive an incoming call in my iPhone X, ringtone starts but the display comes in after six-eight seconds", a user explained the issue on the support forums.

Lots of critics are going to be loving this, as well as brand the iPhone X as a device that costs as much as a decent spec'd notebook but is unable to provide users with an "above par" smartphone experience.

The problem hasn't been resolved in the latest iOS 11.2.5 software update, and based on user accounts it seems that the problem can be traced back to all versions from iOS 11.2 onwards. Notably, Apple iPhone SE prices remain unchanged. Though Apple have issued an apology, their reputation has been tainted, with affected customers losing faith in the company. Then there were complaints of a bug that made the iPhone X unresponsiveness in cold temperatures. Reports claimed recently that many features that Apple was planning to introduce with iOS 12 later this year have been delayed until 2019.
