A Southwest Airlines plane almost slid off a taxiway before departure at Baltimore-Washington International airport on Wednesday morning, the airline said.

The flight was set to go to Montego Bay, Jamaica, and as it was heading out for departure just after 10 a.m., the aircraft slid and stopped near the edge of the taxiway. The plane was moved far from the runway at around 12:30 p.m., the representative said. In 2016, runway and taxiway excursions accounted for about a fifth of total accidents involving commercial aircraft. No injuries were reported, according to the airport and the airline. Crews were also working on getting passengers that were on the plane back to the airport terminal. "The pavement condition tested within FAA standards".

The Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport reported by means of Twitter that Southwest Airlines flights "keep on operating".

Passenger Donna Edmonds described the moment the plane skidded off the taxiway.

Freezing rain has settled over the Baltimore are, and drivers are seeing icy roads throughout the region. Temperatures have been drifting close - or on occasion beneath - solidifying a great part of the morning.
