Earlier, a ceremony on completion of Turkmenistan section of TAPI pipeline project was held at Turkmen city of Serhetabad.

Afghanistan will host leaders from Turkmenistan, Pakistan and India on Friday for the ground-breaking ceremony of the Afghan section of a much-delayed multi-billion dollar gas pipeline connecting the four nations.

Turkmenistan holds the world's fourth largest natural gas reserves, but in recent years has been strongly dependent on gas exports to China after Russian Federation reduced their gas imports.

"Afghanistan believes in a policy of connectivity, not separation", Ashraf Ghani, the country's president, told the gathered dignitaries. "We have full faith in Afghanistan's commitment to secure transmission and in the courage of its security forces - but the responsibility must also be shared", Akbar, said at the inauguration ceremony for the construction of the TAPI pipeline in Afghanistan's Herat on Friday.

During his address, the premier appreciated President of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamadov for converting a mere gas pipeline project into an energy and communication corridor. But a spokesman for the insurgent group, Zabihullah Mujahid, says it supports the project and will ensure the pipeline's protection. "TAPI is a dove in a storm; we must protect it with all our will and capacity", he added.

Ice storm warning issued for Kansas City area Tuesday
The beneficial rain could total as much as 5 inches by the start of next week, which would significantly help the drought. Rain and drizzle will begin in Central Kansas around midnight and continue into mid-morning Tuesday .

The pipeline mostly runs through parts of southwestern Afghanistan where the Taliban insurgency controls or influences many districts.

TAPI has been supported by the U.S. and the Asian Development Bank and been promoted by Turkmenistan since the 1990s but has been shrouded in delays because of the problems crossing Afghanistan.

As for Pakistan, it is facing energy crisis since long but for the first time the incumbent government successfully completed projects for import of LNG and completion of TAPI would go a long way in providing meaningful relief to gas consumers in the country.

He said he did not see just one gas line but several gas pipelines to overcome energy shortages.

He said the China Pakistan Economic Corridor was the most efficient connectivity link for the Central Asian States and it's linkage with the One Belt One Road would open a new world of opportunities. The ADB is acting as the facilitator and coordinator for the project.
